Why Panama… Why Me?

I'm an expat who left my home country of Canada in my late teens and have spent most of my adult life living, travelling, investing and doing business internationally.

In my late twenties, I eventually settled in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where I spent 8 years and welcomed my first child into the world (today I have four).  

…becoming a father changed the way I thought about where we lived.

I began looking more seriously at the geopolitical risks surrounding the region, the country's long-term trajectory, and what it meant to raise my family in a part of the world sitting directly between some of the most complicated geopolitical fault lines on the planet.

So I started looking elsewhere.

I wanted somewhere politically stable, internationally connected, and economically functional, but I also wanted greater personal freedom, a good environment for raising a family, and a country where I could establish something permanent rather than simply passing through as another expat… and it turns out I wasn’t asking too much. 

Today, my wife and I are raising our growing family in Panama, and we have been here for more than seven years. Other than marrying my wife, it's the best decision I have ever made.
